Get off the beaten track
...or river in this case. This fly-out/float-back overnight rafting adventure offers amazing views, great hiking opportunities as well as some really fun whitewater! NOVA runs the only trips in this rarely-visited piece of Alaska backcountry.
This Alaska wilderness raft trip offers exciting small plane flightseeing as you fly into the Chickaloon River put-in. Spellbinding views abound of the mountain river valley and the rugged Talkeetna Mountains. Once landed, lunch will be freshly prepared by your guides. Due to the remote nature of this trip, we operate with two boats and two guides for safety purposes.
The rafting starts on a fun Class III river with a couple of Class IV rapids followed by many miles of continuous fast water. At the end of day, your guide will set up camp and get a sumptuous dinner going. You have time to relax or explore the area. There are several excellent short hikes available featuring beautiful waterfalls and rock formations. Enjoy the cozy campfire and dinner. The next day starts with a leisurely breakfast before embarking on the busiest stretch of river. This day includes one mandatory stop to scout 8 Mile Canyon and some lunch, finishing with some lively Class III segments before hitting the Matanuska River confluence.
All whitewater and camping gear provided, as well as one dry bag per person. NOVA will provide you a complete itinerary and Must-Pack list prior to departure.
