No experience necessary!

It’s not every day you can take a hike along a 26-mile long advancing valley glacier. With NOVA’s popular Glacier Hike, you'll be outfitted with the necessary gear and transported by vehicle to the glacier terminus. Our experienced guides will guide you through the large terminal moraine with its' unique features and to the impressive “Ice Falls” area of the Matanuska Glacier – an expanse of glacier ice that naturally “falls” over the rock under it, creating dramatic spire formations or seracs. It's a must see!

Along the way, there are continuous views of various glacier features such as deep moulins, crevasses. Be sure and bring your camera! Depending on the group fitness and relationship, the Glacier Hike is usually a 1:6 guide-to-client ratio.

NOVA provides all glacier gear based on your physical condition to walk and desire. See below.

  • For the less adventurous, those with some mobility issues and children minimum 9 years old., we have special creepers that can be used with your own above ankle hiking boots with minimum shoe size 5 men,  We can provide hiking boots for those without.
  • For the adventurous with no mobility issues and wanting to reach further, we provide crampons and boots unless you have your own above ankle supported hiking boots.
